I intend to build the best marketing system for small businesses in Murphy, NC.

by John Dilbeck
(Murphy, NC, USA)

I'm one of those people who doesn't really know what he wants to do when he grows up, and at 57 years old I guess I'm a slow learner.

Actually, what I want to do tends to change every decade or so, and I've learned to concentrate on shorter term goals. Maybe one day I'll know what I want to do with the rest of my life.

My dream now is to build the best online marketing system for locally-owned small businesses in Murphy, NC, a charming town nestled in the mountains near the Great Smokies in western NC.

To do that, I'm building sites at MurphyGold.com and MurphyConnections.com.

It's taking longer than I originally planned, but I'd rather take the time to do it right than to just throw up something that won't achieve my long-term goals.

For much less than the cost of building and maintaining their own website, I provide a full year of online promotions and marketing for business owners in Murphy.

My dream is to have 100 small business owners participate and to make Murphy Gold into a site that attracts new customers and delivers them to some of the best businesses in Murphy.

Working together, we can help each other survive the recession and thrive when the economy turns around.

If you live in Murphy, NC or the surrounding area, you can help by visiting MurphyGold.com and taking advantage of the special offers you'll find. Tell the business owners that you learned about them on Murphy Gold.

Thank you.

It took some time to identify and start working on my dream
by: John Dilbeck

Five years ago, in 2004, I spent some time trying to decide what my dream was. At that time, I decided I wanted to build Castle Freedom.

It took some time to realize that was a good-sounding fantasy, but not something I really wanted to devote my time and energy to achieving.

Then, real life intervened. I was spending more and more of my time and energy caring for my mother, until she died in late 2008.

In 2009, I spent a lot of time thinking about this and realized that I had already started promoting some businesses in Murphy, NC.

I spent several months devising a business plan and pricing structure for building what is now MurphyGold.com.

Now, I think I'm on the right track and it's something I enjoy working on every day.

Dying is not your friend
by: John L. Dilbeck

I wrote back in December 2009 that I was making progress in building my marketing alliance.

That came to a screeching halt in January 2010.

I was getting progressively sicker and weaker. We didn't know what was wrong with me, and I had no insurance nor money to get medical help. I thought that I could hang on and recover on my own.

In March, I got so sick that I couldn't even get out of bed. I'd been living with my daughter, son-in-law, and their family since January. It's a good thing I was, too. If I'd still been living alone, nobody would have known how sick I was and they would not have intervened.

My son-in-law and grandson grabbed each arm and carried me to their car and took me to the emergency room.

That's when they found the cancer.

Starting with surgery in April, and RFA on my liver in July, we've turned the corner on this cancer.

If you're interested, I wrote about this in more detail on my 21st Century Affiliate Marketing blog: That was not my last post to 21st Century Affiliate Marketing

Today, I had my third round of chemotherapy and I'm wearing a pump as I write this. I'll get it taken off in a couple of days and then start the next round in two weeks. This is the third round out of a total of 22 that I'm working through.

So, I got side-tracked from building my business, but I'm getting stronger and hope to be back at work in a few months.

These things knock me down, but they won't win unless I die or quit getting back up. I'm stubborn like that.

Dying is not my friend, and I came close, but now I'm getting the treatments I need to win this war and kick this cancer's butt.

I'm still going to build the best online marketing system in Murphy, NC.
