Since the late 1970s, I have enjoyed honest work from home success in a variety of areas.

You don't have to be an Internet marketer to be able to work at home and enjoy all the benefits of owning your own home based business.

There are many types of businesses that can be run from the comfort of your home, and online marketing is only one of the many possibilities.

Who am I to tell you about finding your own honest work from home success?

Since the late 1970s, I've been a computer consultant, programmer, trainer, an artist blacksmith, and I've even owned a business that printed and sold unique business cards at high prices. All of these businesses were run out of my home without any need for an office or staff.

Much of that time, I owned one or more businesses and held a full-time job, too. It was a lot of work, but it has paid off in the long run.

In 2001, when Mom was diagnosed with cancer (on her birthday, no less), she needed help with her treatment, so I closed my metalsmithing business, temporarily, as I took her to daily treatments. After weeks of that, she underwent surgery that successfully treated the cancer, but which left her with nerve damage that impaired her ability to walk and care for herself. So, I closed my metalsmithing business for the duration, and that was years ago.

I devoted myself to caring for her, but my savings were being depleted quickly. I needed a way to earn a living and stay home with her 24/7. There was no way I could go back to consulting, because I would have to spend considerable time away from home, and that just wasn't possible - not if we succeeded in keeping Mom at home and out of a nursing home.

Even though I ran my blacksmithing business at home, it required me to spend hours out of the house while smiting hot metal into artistic shapes. Yes, I was enjoying honest work from home success as an artist blacksmith, but I found that I was unable to care for Mom properly and do the creative work I loved, so I closed one home business and created another.

I had learned about affiliate marketing a few years earlier when I found I could make a few dollars recommending books for people to buy at Amazon.com. I did some research and learned that there were many companies with affiliate programs and decided I could probably earn a living as an affiliate marketer, so Dilbeck Marketing was born out of necessity.

Now, a few years later, I'm not getting rich, but I'm able to pay the bills, stay home and care for Mom, and do something I love.

(Unfortunately, Mom's health started a rapid decline in July, 2008, and she was hospitalized and then moved to the nursing home, because she required more care than I was able to provide. It was a very difficult transition for both of us. She continued to get worse and died just before Thanksgiving, 2008. I am happy that I had the opportunity to care for her for over six years and that she was able to live at home and do as much as possible on her own terms.)

Money does not come pouring in with no effort, no matter what you may have read or heard, but, with dedicated effort, it is possible to enjoy honest work from home success in many ways.

Even now, while I can't leave the house for more than an hour or two a couple of times per week, I'm able to earn a living and care for Mom by building websites, blogging, and testing products and services to find the few gems I'll recommend to you. Believe me, the gems I find are almost as rare as rubies and emeralds. I've looked at thousands of products and services and only recommend a few dozen to you. If I won't use them myself, I won't recommend them to you.

In fact, I use some services to help build my business that I won't recommend, mostly because they are so difficult to learn and use. Traditional web hosting is one of those things I use every day, but I only recommend Site Build It! to real people wanting to enjoy their own honest work from home success. It's the only way to build a website that I know of that offers a proven method, lots of support, and a very reasonable price. It won't do the work for you, but it will help you along each step of the way. No other webhosting service even comes close.

I could earn good money by sending you to a dozen or more other webhosting services, but I would be doing you a disservice and would not feel like I was being honest with you. I've recommended several webhosting services in the past, but I have eliminated all but a couple of them and point out which ones require you to have a level of technical expertise before you stand any chance at all in succeeding with them. Site Build It! is the only service I recommend equally to experienced webmasters and complete beginners, alike.

That's just one example of what I try to do to help you find the success you seek while you act on your dream. In the long run, it does me no good at all if I earn my living by taking advantage of you, does it?

I could take advantage of you for the quick buck, or I could do what it takes to find ways to help you be more successful. If you make progress on finding your own business success when you follow my advice, then you'll come back to see what else I have to say. I will do my best to earn your trust and then never to abuse it. We may not agree now and then, but we can always talk about it in public or in private.

These days, with my online marketing business, I enjoy all the benefits of a home business including earning money while I sleep, dressing casually (including going barefoot in the summer), no commuting, setting my own schedule (I do a lot of my most creative work at night while Mom's asleep), and having all the time I need to help Mom when she needs it. My "office" is a spare bedroom that I've converted into a cave where I mine for customers and commissions on the Internet.

Mom's room is right next to mine and I'm able to help her whenever she calls or rings her bell. It's not perfect, but it's darn close to it.

If this isn't honest work from home success, I don't know what is!

A dream come true

Thirty years ago, when I was paving roads and pouring concrete curb and gutters all around Atlanta, I would not have believed that I'd be living in the mountains of western North Carolina, near a beautiful mountain lake, and be the owner of my own business. Back then, I wanted out of the city and I loved the mountains, so every chance I'd get, I would tie my canoe on top of my truck and head north. I loved leaving the city and felt terrible going back to it.

I started dreaming, three decades ago, about living in the mountains and working for myself. For much of that time, I built my businesses and learned valuable lessons along the way. I acted on my dream and now I'm living it: I Love Murphy, NC.

Taking care of Mom was not part of the dream - it's one of the unexpected benefits.
