I recently watched a very interesting video from Wayne Dyer, called The Shift.
Some of his more recent work is very different from his first writings, and this video explains some of the reasons for that. He calls it The Shift.
As you may be aware, I read a lot of self-improvement books (along with lots of business books) and I'm always trying to understand myself and the people around me more fully.
In my youth, I concentrated on earning money, achieving my goals, building a career, and being respected by my peers. Those are still important to me, but they are not my top priorities, these days. Now, I'm more interested in family and friends, being peaceful, and keeping a positive attitude that makes it much easier to be grateful for all I have and to minimize the negatives of some of the things I'm going through.
I've watched videos and read books about The Law of Attraction, and I'm really turned off by parts of them (especially all the emphasis on material gain), but I feel strongly that there is a level of validity to what they say. I know that from my own experience and from what others have told me.
In The Shift, Dr. Dyer says, "You don't attract what you want, you attract who you are."
I think that is a very important statement and shows the difference between wishing for something, versus committing to change yourself into the person you need to be before you can attract something important into your life.
I still think, however, that depending upon attraction is only part of the story. I practice and recommend setting goals, making plans, and working to make your dream a reality, in addition to visualization and the other tools of attraction. I believe you have to act on your dream, and not just dream it.
I'm no expert on this, nor am I any type of guru, but I know from my own experiences that my life is much better as a result of spending decades working towards being the authentic person I am, rather than trying on all the latest fads and styles.
The Shift is a two-hour movie, and not a lecture in front of a crowd. I liked it and I recommend it to you. After you watch it, it would be a great gift for friends and family who are still looking for the life they really want.
It won't solve anyone's problems, but it does offer some gentle suggestions for changing and growing. Perhaps it will help you, if you are in the process of changing your goals and what you want from life.
